Different gabion orders call for different mesh openings, twist patterns and finishing arrangements. The SLW-54C Gabion Mesh Machine is designed to help manufacturers manage these changing requirements through coordinated servo motion, touchscreen adjustment and tooling matched to the intended product.
Developed by Anping Weaver Wire Mesh Equipment Manufacturing Co., Ltd., this patented five-axis CNC machine combines gabion mesh weaving with configurable supporting equipment, providing a practical solution for both mesh roll production and subsequent gabion fabrication.
Production flexibility starts with the ability to accommodate different mesh specifications. The SLW-54C supports typical openings of 60 × 80 mm, 80 × 100 mm and 100 × 120 mm, using the appropriate tooling for each target size.
The standard maximum netting width is 5.4 m, with other working widths available through customization. For twist formation, operators can select supported configurations covering 3 twists, 5 twists, and long and short twist patterns. Twist length is adjustable from 40 to 70 mm through the HMI.
These capabilities allow manufacturers to plan a varied product range around one machine platform, with the required setup confirmed for each specification.
The SLW-54C addresses three practical production needs: changing specifications, maintaining mesh consistency and keeping equipment accessible for maintenance.
| Production Need | Machine Design | Practical Benefit |
|---|---|---|
| Handling different mesh orders | Optimized changeover arrangement and matching tooling | More convenient preparation for specification changes |
| Maintaining repeatable forming | Five coordinated servo drives | Consistent mesh openings and twist formation |
| Managing mechanical maintenance | Simplified transmission with fewer traditional linkages | Fewer mechanical wear points to inspect |
| Adjusting production settings | Central touchscreen interface | Convenient access to supported parameters |
| Resolving equipment faults | Remote diagnosis and maintenance support | Assistance with troubleshooting and downtime reduction |
The machine’s value lies in combining these functions within a coordinated production system.
At the center of the SLW-54C is a XINJE PLC + HMI control system working with five HCFA servo motor sets, rated at 15 kW each. The PLC coordinates the drive movements, while the touchscreen provides the operator interface for settings and monitoring.
In-house developed software supports customization of operating logic, interface languages and reports according to agreed requirements. This gives manufacturers flexibility in how production information and machine functions are presented to operators.
An automatic lubrication system, take-up shaft and warping machine are listed as standard included equipment. The specified supply voltage is 380 V.
The SLW-54C converts prepared wire into continuous hexagonal mesh through a repeating sequence of wire positioning, twisting and mesh advancement.
During each cycle, adjacent wires are brought together and twisted at the required connection points. The mesh then advances so that the next row of openings can be formed. Repetition creates the interconnected woven structure used for gabion products.
Five-axis coordination keeps the driven movements aligned with the programmed cycle. Correct tooling, suitable wire feeding and properly selected parameters work together to establish the required mesh geometry.
The production route is arranged around the required finished product. Customers supplying mesh rolls may need a different downstream setup from those producing cut panels or formed gabion components.
Wire preparation: Confirm the wire specification and arrange the required feeding and preparation equipment. Available supporting units include the five-roller unit, CNC wire straightening machine and CNC spring making machine.
Mesh weaving: Set up the SLW-54C with the appropriate tooling and process parameters, then form the continuous gabion mesh.
Collection and finishing: Collect the woven mesh for rolling or transfer it to the required finishing stage. Available equipment includes the CNC mesh cutting machine, CNC bending machine, and CNC shrinking and rolling machine.
Inspection and packing: Check the finished mesh against the order requirements before preparing it for storage, shipment or further fabrication.
The final equipment combination should reflect the customer’s product range, workshop layout and production workflow.
A successful production run begins with a clear order specification. Operators should first confirm the mesh opening, wire diameter, netting width and twist requirements.
Next, install the matching tooling and complete the wire threading and mechanical adjustments described in the supplied manual. Enter the supported production settings through the HMI, including the required twist length and pattern.
Produce a trial sample before releasing the order for continuous weaving. Check the opening dimensions, twist appearance, overall width and collection condition. Any necessary correction should be completed before continuing.
During production, monitor wire feeding, mesh formation and machine alarms. After the run, follow the prescribed shutdown procedure and record any issues that may affect the next setup.
Mesh size changeover requires the correct combination of digital settings and specification-matched tooling. Required plates and other matching components should be confirmed in advance.
The published maximum galvanized wire diameter is 4 mm, and the listed maximum output is 1,000+ m²/hour. Actual output varies with wire characteristics, mesh opening, twist configuration, process settings and site conditions. The intended operating combination should therefore be confirmed when selecting the configuration.
For installation planning, the listed machine dimensions are 9.8 × 1.32 × 3.46 m, with a weight of approximately 19.5 tonnes. Workshop planning should also account for supporting equipment, material handling and maintenance access.
Only trained personnel should operate the machine. Stop and isolate the relevant power sources before changing tooling, clearing trapped wire or performing maintenance. Follow the supplied manual for lubrication, inspections and safe adjustment procedures.
The SLW-54C serves manufacturers producing woven mesh for gabion baskets, mattresses and related protective structures.
Riverbank protection: Mesh fabricated into stone-filled gabion units for river training and erosion-control works.
Slope and embankment stabilization: Gabion products used in protective structures along hillsides and embankments.
Roadside retaining works: Woven mesh components for gabion structures supporting road engineering projects.
Ecological and landscape restoration: Gabion systems incorporated into erosion-control and landscape protection schemes.
By linking flexible weaving with suitable finishing equipment, the SLW-54C helps manufacturers prepare gabion mesh products for a range of project requirements.
